10 Words That Don’t Sound The Same And Also Have Different Meanings

Dictionary-Book-960x1080You don’t need a doctorate to know that English can be a pretty zany language. To prove it, here are ten words that don’t sound the same, and yet also have different meanings.

accomplicejogging

Whoa, slow down there, English language! “Jogging,” which means “a brisk run for the purpose of exercise,” sounds nothing like “accomplice,” which is a hired helper.

placealthough

We’re not done yet! “Place” not only doesn’t sound like “although” or have the same meaning – they aren’t even spelled alike!

botanylionel

Though they may share several letters, don’t be fooled! “Botany” has a completely independent meaning from the male given name “Lionel.”

steadilynovember

It’s easy enough to confuse the adverb “steadily” with the eleventh month of the Gregorian calendar. Just blame the English language for being so gosh-darn nutty!

captureis

There’s just no end to this madness.
